In accordance with DMV regulations, individuals who fail the Virginia knowledge examination three times must complete an 8-hour classroom course before retesting. This requirement applies to both teens applying for learner's permits and adults renewing their driver's licenses.
Offered this course delivers targeted instruction on driver’s manual content and practical test-taking techniques. Successful graduates receive a Certificate of Completion enabling them to retake the DMV test.
ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS
3-Time DMV Knowledge Exam Failures:
Required for anyone who has failed the Virginia knowledge test three times
Teens (Ages 15–17):
Must present proof of completing the 30-hour Driver Education classroom component with either a DEC-1 (from a public/private high school) or DTS-36 (from a commercial driving school) prior to taking this course
Adults (18+):
Eligible after 3 license or permit test failures (no prerequisite completion certificate required)
